Green Kingfisher (Chloroceryle americana)

On February 27 of 2010, this amazing female Green Kingfisher was discovered at the Hassayampa River Preserve, which was way out of it's normal range of southeastern Arizona.  Not only was it way out of range, but it was the first record of Green Kingfisher in Maricopa County's history.  On February 28th, I went to the preserve and struck out.  I decided to give it another shot on Wednesday, March 3rd when the preserve opened and I was rewarded as well as many other birders in pursuit of the Green.  I went a few hours searching to only catch one sight of her by following her call and then catching a short glimpse of the bird flying over the river.  A short time after someone else spied the bird and I was able to get many good shots, including the ones below.
